Range
Initially only growing in the gorges of the northern Balkan Island, now also in Western and Central Europe as well as all over North America. Preferably used as trees in European parks and avenues. Typical shade tree in Bavarian beer gardens. Very rarely comes in burl form.
Uses
No great economic signi cance. Only used as special wood for turning and carving. Not used for veneers. Burls hardly occur and thus are only used for single furniture pieces or inlays.
Properties
Of yellowish-white colour and often spotty, thus not suitable for veneer production.
Machining
Easy to work with all tools.
Seasoning
No difficulty. Only slight tendency to check or warp.
Finishing
Well suitable for surface treatment with any paint or varnish.
Jointing
Joints are easy to produce.
