Similar Woods

Koto, Limetree

Origin

South America, all through Brazil, in the Basin of the Amazon

Range

See origin above. Hardly any literature available. No further details possible.

Uses

Without gure, this wood is hardly known or used in Central Europe – only for interior or side veneers – due to its uniformity with no expression. Figured, however, sought for in non-European countries (USA, Asia) where it is used for special object construction; in South America used in shipbuilding, for furniture and as construction wood; in veneer form used for boards in southern Asia.

Properties

Straw-yellow and very uniform colour. Shows very little structure even after surface finishing. More interesting in the figured form. Then used for interior and special object construction.

Machining

All tools can be used without any problems.

Seasoning

Needs to be done with care as wood is highly prone to warping. Slight tendency to checking.

Finishing

No problems. Takes stains and varnishes well.

Jointing

Joints are easy to produce with glue and hold well.
